9 Inches of Rain Near Harrisburg, PA
Blog reader Steve Kowalewski left a Comment on my blog last night saying: "We had some incredible rain last night in Landisburg, PA. I measured 9.25 inches with lots of debris and flooding around the western half of the county. We have not seen this much rain in such a short time since TS Hugo."
Here's a RadarPlus map showing Doppler estimates of the rainfall in Steve's area:
Per Steve's actual rain gauge report, these Doppler estimates (which can be inaccurate because the radar was actually looking high in the air over the land) were actually low. The reason for all the rain: the area was victim to almost constant heavy rains between 5 PM and 2 AM (see 11 PM radar as an example)"
The NWS issued Flood advisories, one of which was still in effect early Friday morning, saying:
"AT 345 AM EDT LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT REPORTED FLOODING CONTINUING OVER MUCH OF CENTRAL AND SOUTHERN PERRY COUNTY...AND ACROSS THE NORTHERN HALF OF PERRY COUNTY. WHILE THE RAIN HAS ENDED...SMALL STREAMS AND CREEKS CONTINUE TO RISE AND WILL CONTINUE TO DO SO OVER THE NEXT SEVERAL HOURS BEFORE BEGINNING TO RECEDE. NUMEROUS ROADS REMAIN CLOSED THROUGHOUT THE AREA DUE TO FLOODING. SHERMANS CREEK NEAR SHERMANS DALE WAS MORE THAN 3 FEET ABOVE FLOOD STAGE AT 4 AM AND STILL RISING."
CBS21 says that part of I-83 was flooded and part of Route 850 caved in due to flooding. If you know of any additional information please post a Comment and/or links to news sites below.

Randy:
We live in Middletown (PA) and received heavy rains the evening you mentioned (started around Midnight to approx. 2 AM). The rain hitting the house sounded like the pressure from a fire hose slamming the roof and the sides. The volume of water must have been incredible.
It was very loud!

Matt S:
I don't live in Perry County but had to spend most of this morning driving around the Landisburg area for my job. What a mess of muddy, water-filled and sometimes washed-out roads!
