UK braces for Humberto's rain and gusty winds early this week
By Courtney Travis, AccuWeather senior meteorologist
Published Sep 20, 2019 5:19 PM EDT
Hurricane Humberto caused power outages and damage to some buildings in Paget, Bermuda, on Sept. 18.
After making a close encounter with Bermuda, former Hurricane Humberto is traveling across the North Atlantic and will target the British Isles early this week.
Humberto, currently a tropical rainstorm, will approach from the northwest on Sunday night.
Ahead of the center of the storm, a swath of rain will move into Ireland, Wales and southwestern England during the day on Monday.
Winds will begin to increase across the region on Monday evening as showers overtake all of the British Isles.
The strongest winds are anticipated on Monday across Ireland, then Monday evening into Tuesday across the United Kingdom.
A few gusts will reach to near 50 mph (80 km/h) across Ireland and Southwest Britain, though most areas will see peak wind gusts on the order of 40 mph (65 km/h).
Southward- and westward-facing coasts and the highest elevations in Wales and southwestern England will be the target for the strongest wind gusts.

Winds gusts associated with Humberto will be capable of causing minor tree damage, as well as lead to isolated power cuts.
Rounds of rain are expected to continue across the country into Wednesday morning. While showery spells are expected across Scotland, Northern Ireland and northeastern England, the heaviest rain be centered in Wales and southern and central England.
Localized rainfall amounts up to 50 mm (2 inches) will be possible as rainfall persists into early Wednesday.
Following Humberto, another low will approach the British Isles for the second half of the week. This may bring in more rounds of rain and another dose of gusty winds Thursday and Friday.
