Tropical Cyclone Jokwe
Tropical Cyclone Jokwe lashed parts of northern Madagascar with high winds and heavy rain on Thursday. As Jokwe's center crossed the island nation's northernmost tip from east to west, it wielded maximum sustained winds near 60 mph.
Upon reaching the Mozambique Channel, the storm intensified significantly. By late Thursday afternoon, local time, Jokwe's top winds increased to 85 mph around an eye that was 115 miles north of Mahajanga, Madagascar; it was moving southwestward at 14 mph.
The cyclone is forecast to strengthen further on a southwestward heading over the Mozambique Channel; it would threaten the coast of Mozambique beginning Friday night and continue through the upcoming weekend.
