Reports: Snow triggers flight delays, slick roads along Northeast's I-95 corridor

After creating a wintry scene in the South, a snowstorm will continue to sweep along the Interstate 95 corridor of the northeastern United States into early Sunday morning.

The snow has ended from Washington, D.C., to New York City. Snow will continue to fall in Boston and Portland, Maine, through the early morning on Sunday.

"Where more than an inch or two of snow falls, roads will transition from wet to slushy to snow-covered," AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Alex Sosnowski said. "However, slippery spots are likely even where a small amount of snow falls."

The number of incidents of slick travel may continue to climb into Sunday morning as temperatures drop and any wet or slushy spots on untreated roads and sidewalks turn icy.

Sporadic power outages are possible as the snow clings to weak tree limbs.

1:00 a.m. EST Sunday: The snowstorm is slowly beginning to pull away from the coast with the heaviest snow now confined to Maine. Around 6 inches of snow has piled up around Portland. Light snow continues to fall in Boston, but the wintry precipitation will slowly wind down in the city by dawn.

11:30 p.m. EST Saturday: Snow totals have exceeded half a foot across portions of northeast Connecticut and central Massachusetts, just west of downtown Boston.

A couple more inches of snow can accumulate before precipitation winds down by dawn on Sunday.

9:30 p.m. EST Saturday: More reports of black ice will come in as snow and slush begin to freeze as temperatures plummet tonight.

Road crews are plowing state roadways, however roads are still wet and snow-covered in some areas.

8:30 p.m. EST Saturday: Snowy and icy road conditions are being reported in areas of Massachusetts and New Hampshire. As temperatures continue to drop and slush turns to ice, road conditions will deteriorate even more.

Penn DOT reports that roads are wet with freezing conditions across portions of eastern Pennsylvania.

7:30 p.m. EST Saturday: Severe snow and ice conditions are indicated on the New York Department of Transportation map. These conditions are causing roads to be slick and dangerous. Driving conditions will continue to deteriorate through the night as slush freezes.

6:30 p.m. EST Saturday: Due to snow and ice, departure traffic destined to Newark International Airport, Newark, New Jersey, is currently experiencing delays averaging 2 hours and 14 minutes.

There is a traffic management program in effect for traffic arriving Philadelphia International Airport, which is causing some arriving flights to be delayed an average of 1 hour and 29 minutes.

Due to runway treatment, traffic at John F Kennedy International Airport is experiencing gate hold and taxi delays between 16 minutes and 30 minutes in length and increasing.

4:30 p.m. EST Saturday: As temperatures drop below freezing, be cautious of wet or slushy areas refreeze.

Icy roads are one of the main hazards tonight as the snow gradually winds down and temperatures drop. If planning travel this evening or overnight, use caution.

The Army vs. Navy football game is continuing through the inclement weather.

3:45 p.m. EST Saturday: The New York State Department of Transportation is warning residents that slick travel could be in store for parts of New York. Avoid unnecessary travel.

2:28 p.m. EST Saturday:

Almost 2 inches of snow has been measured in New York City's Central Park, while 1.4 inches has been reported at LaGuardia Airport and 0.9 of an inch at JFK International Airport.

Elsewhere, 3 inches was measured at Harrison, New Jersey, and 8 inches was reported near Delmar, Delaware.

12:23 p.m. EST Saturday: Snowy and icy road conditions are being reported around New York City and portions of Long Island as snow continues to fall.

11:45 a.m. EST Saturday: Snow is falling at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, hours before the Army-Navy game is scheduled to be played.

11:00 a.m. EST Saturday: Snowfall has increased around New York City with visibility down to a half of a mile in Central Park.

10:45 a.m. EST Saturday:

Penn DOT reports that roads are wet with freezing conditions across portions of eastern Pennsylvania. Snow is whitening the shoulders of the interstates.

10:10 a.m. EST Saturday: Snow has reduced visibility to three-quarters of a mile at Newark International Airport. Delays for some arriving flights are averaging more than 2 hours, according to the FAA.

5:30 a.m. EST Saturday: The Virginia Department of Transportation reported that all lanes of Georgetown Pike at Tebbs Lane have reopened after a vehicle crash caused downed power lines early Saturday morning.

Snow continues to expand northward across the mid-Atlantic. A trace of snow has been reported in Loudoun County, Virginia, near Dulles International Airport.

Just under 10,000 Dominion Energy customers are without power in Virginia. Most of the outages are around the Richmond metro area.

2:30 a.m. EST Saturday: Snow is creating a wintry scene on the beaches of Ocean City, Maryland. One to 2 inches of snow has fallen from Ocean City to Bethany Beach, Delaware. Higher amounts up to 4 inches have been reported in southwestern Delaware.

In Salisbury, Maryland, between 5 and 7 inches of snow has been reported since Friday afternoon.
