Photos: Flooding rain prompts water rescues in eastern Spain
Homes were flooded and more than two dozen people had to be rescued from their cars as torrential rain triggered flooding in eastern Spain late this week.
As AccuWeather meteorologists warned about earlier this week, heavy rain streamed into Spain's Valencian Community on Thursday into Friday as a storm pulled in moisture from the Mediterranean Sea.
Alfondeguilla was one of the hardest-hit areas with 195.4 mm (7.69 inches) of rain pouring down in the 24 hours ending on Friday morning, local time. Torreblanca recorded a similar total, according to data from Spain's Meteorological Agency.
More than 135 mm (5.31 inches) of rain inundated the city of Valencia.

Police in Valencia responded to at least 114 calls related to the torrential rain. Train routes and university classes were suspended, according to El País.
To the north in the province of Castellón, crews had to rescue about 30 people from their cars as runoff from the heavy rain flooded roads. Flooded homes were reported in Alcossebre.

Gusty winds toppled trees sitting in the saturated soil across parts of the region.
No fatalities have been reported, but additional rain into Friday night and isolated downpours on Saturday may trigger new or escalate ongoing flooding incidents in the Valencian Community.
Use extreme caution if driving. Flooded roads are dangerous to drive through and can be difficult to see at night until it is too late. The roadway underneath may be damaged or the current of the water may be strong enough to sweep away your vehicle.

Drier weather is expected to return to Valencian Community on Sunday and early next week. There can still be ongoing flooding along area rivers, threatening lives and property these days.
