Midweek Storm
Low pressure over the western Gulf of Mexico will intensify by Wednesday as it moves to the east. The storm will bring beneficial rain to the Southeast before potentially developing into a new East Coast storm.
Today will be relatively dry across the South as the storm that brought rain to the region on Sunday slams the Northeast with heavy snow.
The East Regional News story reports the potent nor'easter will dump heavy snow in the Northeast interior, while warmer air will result in rain along the Interstate 95 corridor south of New York City.
The developing storm system on Wednesday could produce excessive rain along the Gulf coast. Depending on the timing, there could be enough cold air on the eastern slope of the Appalachians on Thursday to produce freezing rain or snow in the Carolinas and Virginia.
Dry, windy conditions across Florida today will heighten the fire danger. The Severe Weather Center lists the Red Flag Warnings in effect across the state.
Cold air has pushed into the Southeast. Temperatures early this morning were 10 to 20 degrees colder than the temperatures recorded 24 hours earlier. Seasonably normal high temperatures will continue through much of the week.
