Cooler air, thunderstorms to reduce summerlike warmth across Germany this week
Following summerlike temperatures last week, the mercury will settle closer to normal across Germany at midweek.
Even over the past weekend, temperatures soared into the middle and upper 20s C (lower 80s F) in cities like Frankfurt and Munich, more than 10 C (20 F) over normal levels for this time of year.
During the end of April, normal high temperatures in these areas are closer to 16 C (60 F).
Temperatures this week, however, will fall back closer to normal levels.

The first push of cooler air pushed in on Monday, bringing temperatures across much of the country down several degrees. However, the real wave of cooler air will wait until midweek.
"On Wednesday, temperatures will likely hold just above normal for late-April levels," said AccuWeather Meteorologist Tyler Roys.
A cold front will move southward across the country into Wednesday. As the front dips southward it will bring showers and thunderstorms.
Thunderstorms across the northern half of the country on Wednesday will have the potential to be strong. Other than cloud to ground lightning, the biggest threat looks to be gusty winds with these storms.
"Localized wind gusts up to 80 km/h (50 mph) are possible, which could cause some isolated damage and power outages," added Roys.
The front will also usher in sharply colder air as well.
By Thursday, highs in northern Germany, including Hamburg and Hanover, will drop down near 10 C (50 F). Following temperatures in the lower 20s C (lower 70s F) in places like Frankfurt and Munich, Thursday's highs will be near normal around 15 C (60 F).
While temperatures of this level are near normal, they will be a harsh contrast from the middle 20s C (lower 80s F) less than a week prior.
There will be a cooler and more springlike environment for those visiting Munich's spring festival, which continues across the city until early May.
Some lingering showers and storms are forecast on Thursday as well. Again thunderstorms could produce gusty winds. However, calmer and drier weather looks to return on Friday.
Despite the cooler air, the sun's rays will remain strong. Therefore, any sunny breaks could cause sunburn for those outside without protective clothing or sunblock.
