Severe thunderstorms target Buenos Aires and Montevideo
A cold front will spark rounds of severe thunderstorms and heavy rainfall across parts of Argentina and Uruguay this weekend and early next week.
Buenos Aires and Montevideo will both be a threat for severe thunderstorms capable of producing damaging winds and flooding downpours.

The above image shows potential rainfall amounts according to the GFS model. Areas shown in Yellow and dark blue could see more than 4 inches (100 mm ) of rainfall through Tuesday.
While the rainfall may cause flooding and produce travel disruptions, much of this region has received below-normal rainfall the past few months, so the increase in soil moisture will benefit crops in areas that do no suffer significant flooding.
The worst conditions for Buenos Aires will be late Saturday night through Sunday. The severe weather threat could linger into Monday for Montevideo.
Severe weather will then shift into northern Uruguay and southern Rio Grande do Sul on Monday night and Tuesday.
