Snow to blossom in the Northeast on the first full day of spring
1. The pressure analysis shows a low pressure area that has sent precipitation into the Ohio Valley and parts of the Middle Atlantic region already. A cold high pressure in anchored north of Lake Superior.

2. The early morning satellite picture shows some evidence of the Upper Midwest trough aloft that may help fuel the coastal storm as it affects the area from New Jersey to southern Maine tomorrow and tomorrow night.

3. The following sequence of maps shows the GFS ensemble mean solution at six-hour intervals from this evening through tomorrow. Notice how the first pulse of precipitation advances to a certain point this evening, then retreats. As the coastal storm takes over, heavier snow will proceed along the I95 corridor into New England.

As the snow retreats in Pennsylvania, the low pressure area splits, with most future development occurring with the offshore storm.

At daybreak tomorrow, the snow is advancing again.

Tomorrow afternoon's commute may be very difficult in the Providence-Boston area because the storm may not have started in time to convince morning commuters about the risk that would develop later.
