A rapidly strengthening storm will bring heavy snow to southern Virginia with a blizzard possible in southeastern Virginia and over part of the Delmarva Peninsula, while the New York City area will be on the northwestern flank of the accumulating snow this weekend. At this time, 1-3 inches of snow is most likely, beginning late Saturday night and lasting into Sunday. The exact accumulation highly depends on the track of the storm. A storm that hugs the mid-Atlantic coast could bring heavier snow to the city, while a storm that drifts farther east may cause little to no snow to fall. It is possible that no snow falls over northwestern New Jersey and in the middle part of the Hudson Valley from the storm. A moderate to heavy snowfall is likely on central and eastern Long Island and central and eastern Connecticut. Strong winds near the coast, combined with high astronomical tides, will lead to moderate coastal flooding.
