Fancy a ski trip? Check out these hidden gems for the best ski resort experience!

With winter weather setting in all over the country, many people are itching to get out on the slopes and take advantage of one of the best parts of winter. The continent of North America offers an abundance of amazing ski destinations scattered all over the various mountainous regions. Here are seven of the best ski destinations to consider for your next winter trip:

Winter Park, Colorado

This Rocky Mountain favorite boasts the distinction of being the longest continually operating ski resort in North America. With over 300 inches of average snowfall each year, Winter Park is a dependable location for skiing and snowboarding. Located less than 70 miles west of Denver, Winter Park makes a great day trip when visiting the Mile High City.

Stowe Mountain Resort, Vermont

New Englanders delight in this gem, featuring 485 acres of varied terrain. The two peaks of Spruce and Mount Mansfield are connected with a lift that makes it easy to ski both in one day. Stowe also features a variety of runs, making it an excellent choice for when you have skiers of varying skill levels in your group. The closest major airport serving Stowe Mountain is Burlington International Airport, located approximately 45 minutes away.

Breckenridge, Colorado

Summit County, Colorado is the holy grail of skiing in North America, and Breckenridge is tops on the list. A quaint downtown area and lively bar scene combine with five massive peaks, almost 3,000 skiable acres, and 11 bowls to deliver an exceptional ski experience every time you strap on your boots. Breckenridge has a definitively laid-back vibe, making it a great choice for those travelers who want to take it easy and connect with locals.

Big Sky, Montana

While it may take more effort to reach this relatively remote resort town, your time and work will be rewarded with almost 6,000 skiable acres waiting to be explored. Some of the most technologically advanced chairlifts make it quick and easy to get on your way, enjoying that big Montana sky. The new Vista Hall adds a myriad of dining options to the base station. Big Sky is a picturesque ski town that truly has it all.

Park City Mountain Resort, Utah

Park City was put on the map when it hosted the ski events of the 2002 Winter Olympics. Conveniently located just 30 minutes from Salt Lake City, this resort town is the quintessential ski experience. As one of the largest ski areas in the country, Park City Resort features 7,300 acres, eight terrain parks, and 64 acres dedicated to night skiing. The lively downtown area consistently gets rave reviews for its après-ski scene, making this the total vacation experience.

Whistler Blackcomb, British Columbia

Boasting over 8,000 acres of terrain, the sheer size and scope of Whistler Blackcomb make this a must-see ski destination in Canada. The charming Whistler Village is a cozy place to relax after a day out on the slopes. From fine dining to quick meals on the go, you will find what you are looking for in this European inspired village. A variety of lodging accommodations makes it easy to find the perfect place for your needs.

Red Mountain Resort, British Columbia

Also in British Columbia, you will find the fun Red Mountain Resort. While it is not as well-known as its Whistler Blackcomb counterpart, this is one of the most up and coming ski resorts on the continent thanks to its newly expanded terrain and a myriad of lodging options that continue to open. Red Mountain Resort is located in Rossland, just nine miles over the US border and approximately 2.5 hours from the airport in Spokane, Washington.

Before you take off on your epic ski adventure, be sure to check the local forecast so that you can prepare for the expected conditions. A little preparation will ensure the best ski adventure. Keep in mind that the weather can change on a dime while out on the mountain, making it important that you stay abreast of developing conditions.
