AccuWeather Global Weather Center, November 1, 2022  — AccuWeather, the most accurate and most used source of weather forecasts and warnings, as well as a global media publisher, today announced it is the first publisher to partner with Scope3, the source of truth for digital supply chain emissions data, to offer Green Media Products (GMPs) directly to its advertising partners.

AccuWeather GMPs are carbon-neutral media products, powered by Scope3, that offer brands and agencies the opportunity to measure and compensate for the carbon emissions associated with their advertising investments.

At the heart of the partnership is AccuWeather’s commitment to achieving net zero emissions by reducing carbon emissions across its supply chain and allocating funds to compensate for remaining essential emissions via high-quality carbon removal projects.

“As AccuWeather scales its sustainability strategy, it is important that we lead by example starting in our powerful advertising space,” said Bill McGarry, senior Vice President of Consumer Advertising for AccuWeather.

GMPs powered by Scope3 are the only industry solution designed to promote and incentivize emissions reductions throughout an advertiser’s entire supply chain. Now, for the first time, AccuWeather’s advertising partners will be able to allocate dollars to GMPs to make progress towards net zero.

“Scope3 is the catalyst needed to reevaluate all aspects of our digital advertising processes and relationships,” said Stephen Mummey, Senior Vice President of Programmatic Sales and Operations for AccuWeather. “With its help and guidance, we will be better positioned to understand and account for the cost of carbon in our offerings  and empowered to take appropriate actions for a more sustainable tomorrow.”

Scope3 solutions are designed to make a measurable impact on the carbon footprint of the media and advertising industry by allowing advertisers, publishers and adtech platforms to price carbon into every decision. Scope3 helps publishers optimize revenue and ensure relevance by offering carbon neutral inventory to brands seeking to reduce emissions across direct and programmatic channels.

“Brands seeking to reach emissions reduction goals rely on access to accurate value chain emissions data from publishers and the ability to compensate for the emissions resulting from their advertising activity,” said Harvin Gupta, head of Commercial Partnerships at Scope3. “Though its GMP offering, AccuWeather helps brands turn commitments into action and realize immediate emissions reductions without sacrificing business results.”

With this partnership, AccuWeather is furthering its commitment to contributing to a more sustainable publishing and advertising industry.
