AccuWeather’s patented technology portfolio selected to further strengthen WDT offerings and capabilities in new weather enterprise partnership. AccuWeather Global Weather Center – September 15, 2015 – AccuWeather, Inc., the global leader in weather information and digital media, today announced that Weather Decision Technologies, Inc. (WDT) has signed a patent licensing agreement with AccuWeather that gives WDT the ability to utilize over 50 of AccuWeather’s unique patents. AccuWeather has developed exclusive patented technologies to geographically pinpoint all forms of content to individual users and to their dynamically changing locations that will now benefit WDT and its clients worldwide.

The new licensing agreement grants to WDT the right to use AccuWeather’s patents with all mobile, wireless, and wearable devices; smart TVs; connected vehicles, boats, and aircraft; in social networking opportunities; and in weather-triggered marketing applications. While the terms of the actual license agreement are confidential, the royalties are size and use based and extend beyond the seven figure range over the life of the license.

“We are proud that WDT has joined with AccuWeather to utilize some of our patented technologies for the distribution of weather-related information,” said Barry Lee Myers, Chief Executive Officer of AccuWeather. “By partnering with AccuWeather, WDT has access to the best proprietary technologies to grow and expand their business, which allows for a true global reach in connecting people with information.”

The WDT license follows on the heels of the major announcement last week of the United States National Weather Service also signing a license for certain aspects of the patented AccuWeather technology.

"Our agreement underscores the value companies place on a broad and foundational patent portfolio, ultimately protecting customers and end users. We work with clients all around the world to provide weather decision products and services and are pleased to expand our offering through this licensing agreement. In partnering with AccuWeather, we now offer a robust mobile innovation portfolio, helping WDT and our clients to aggressively grow and lead in the mobile space,” said J.T. Johnson, Chief Technology Officer of Weather Decision Technologies.

AccuWeather’s IP licensing programs make it possible for partners to benefit from AccuWeather’s unique, expanding IP portfolio and capabilities to help improve people’s lives. For more information on available patents and flexible licensing programs, call 814-235-8600.
