STATE COLLEGE, Pa. February 16, 2010 - AccuWeather.com today announced the launch of a new web site with a fantastic user experience and a wide range of new looks and features that bring forecasts closer than ever to the audience's needs. The new site considers the needs current users who may want detailed, reliable weather information and an expanded audience of people who check weather frequently in order to help them make lifestyle-based decisions by offering the most accurate, local and personalized weather information, made easier than ever to use.
"AccuWeather understands that our audience wants weather information to help them to make decisions about work, leisure, and family activities with the finest forecasts available," Barry Lee Myers, CEO of AccuWeather, Inc. said. "That's why we've focused the new site on information that helps to better connect the dots between weather content and users' needs, at all levels of use. In addition, we've made the site easier to use than ever. A combination of more relevant content and improved user experience makes the new AccuWeather.com the most useful online weather source anywhere."
Based on feedback from current audience and a new, broader base of weather users, the new AccuWeather.com is designed to optimize every aspect of the user experience. It accomplishes that in a number of ways:
- Weather for Your Life: The new site includes four new lifestyle areas that relate weather to the activities and concerns of people every day: Weather and Health, Weather and Travel, Weather and Home and Garden, Weather and Outdoor Activity. These new sections include a variety of five-day forecasts for key weather-for-your-life parameters that allow users to plan business, recreation, travel, exercise, medication, and more.
- Accurate: The site includes AccuWeather's unique, and most accurate 15-day and hour-by-hour forecasts with the addition of the new 30-day calendarized forecast. It also carries a wider range of easy-to-use weather images for added insight - including radar, satellite, severe weather, forecast maps, and more. For added understanding, it offers videos and blogs by expert meteorologists that explain the weather for our audience.
- Local: AccuWeather.com offers detailed information and forecasts for every ZIP code in the U.S. and, through our global sites, forecasts for every place people live on Earth. The site also provides more than 600 unique, broadcast-quality weather videos every day, including local video forecasts for over 100 U.S. cities.
- Easy: The new site makes it easier than ever for users to find what they need by displaying more relevant information grouped conveniently together and at a higher level in the site. For example, users' forecasts are displayed with their radar and their local video, all from one view on the home page. Clutter has been consciously reduced throughout the site, with larger displays and a new tabbed navigation putting more choices than ever at the audience's fingertips.
The new AccuWeather.com went into testing or "Beta" on February 15th and will be fully operational on March 1st. During the testing period, AccuWeather will welcome user feedback and make adjustments to the site based on user input.
