On the evening of July 18, 2026, several tornadoes impacted central and western Pennsylvania as part of a larger severe weather event in the Northeast and mid-Atlantic. In three separate cases, AccuWeather was the ONLY known source to provide advance notice of the damaging tornadoes. In all three situations, residents and businesses relying solely on NWS warnings or warnings from all other known sources would have received no advance notice before the tornadoes occurred.
Near Huntingdon Furnace, PA
An EF-2 tornado with peak winds of 125 mph struck Huntingdon Furnace, in Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania, producing damage along its half-mile-long path. A tornado of this intensity is somewhat rare in Central Pennsylvania and resulted in significant damage to buildings and trees.

The National Weather Service (NWS) and all other known sources did not issue tornado warnings until the tornadoes were already on the ground, creating damage and putting lives at risk.
