AccuWeather Provides Two Days Additional Advance Notice and Most Accurate Forecast for Snowstorm in New York and Boston

AccuWeather was the first known source to issue forecast snow accumulation maps for the Jan. 19 snowstorm and also provided the most accurate snow accumulation forecast for New York City and Boston, most accurately predicting 2-4” and 3-6” of snow, respectively. AccuWeather customers who receive AccuWeather AlertsTM were exclusively given an additional two days of advance notice of the storm compared to the National Weather Service (NWS) watches and warnings from other known sources.
AccuWeather’s snow forecast across the Northeast, for cities including New York City and Boston, was issued before all other known sources and was the most accurate.
• On Thursday, three days in advance of the storm, while other sources did not yet have snow accumulation maps, AccuWeather correctly predicted:
- 2-4” of snow would accumulate in New York City. On Saturday, two days later, the NWS predicted 3-5". As accurately predicted by AccuWeather, 2-4" fell across the city.
-3-6” of snow would fall in Boston. On Saturday, two days later, the NWS predicted 4-8". As accurately predicted by AccuWeather, 3-6" fell across the city.

• In New York and Boston, an AccuWeather Alert for Snow Potential was issued on Thursday, Jan. 16. This alert was provided two days in advance of Winter Storm Watches and Winter Weather Advisories from the National Weather Service in both cities.
AccuWeather was the only known source to include a specific mention in their forecast conveying how the weather could impact the Philadelphia vs. Los Angeles NFL playoff game, stating “snow can cause poor visibility, slow travel and impact the playoff game” and “slow travel after the game.”
On Friday, Jan. 17, AccuWeather was the only known source to use descriptive language within daily forecasts provided on the AccuWeather app, website, and other locations, which provided awareness that “a disruptive snowstorm is expected Sunday; check AccuWeather often.”
