Warmth poised to bust loose in midwestern, eastern US by next week

By Alex Sosnowski, AccuWeather senior meteorologist

Published Apr 7, 2017 2:14 PM EDT | Updated Jul 1, 2019 5:23 PM EDT

Copied

People who have had enough of the wintry episodes since March will finally get a break as warmth is poised to bust loose in the midwestern and eastern United States.

From 2 to 13 inches of snow fell from the Lower Peninsula of Michigan to the mountains of North Carolina into Friday morning. This will likely be the last snowfall of the season for much of the area.

Several days of tranquil conditions are in store for communities weary of severe weather in the Central and Southern states. The spell of dry weather will help curtail runoff into area rivers.

The change to warm weather should be nothing short of spectacular in much of the Upper Midwest and Northeast. Sunshine will accompany the warmth in many areas.

Static US Weekend

Expect temperatures to trend upward from west to east into early next week.

In many cases across the northern half of the nation, AccuWeather RealFeel® Temperatures will be 50 to 60 degrees Fahrenheit higher comparing the mornings from this weekend with the afternoons on Monday and Tuesday.

"For many people, it will feel like early summer without the high humidity," according to AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Kristina Pydynowski.

Highs in the 30s, 40s and 50s will be replaced by highs in the 60s, 70s and 80s.

Static Major Warmup

"High temperatures could even rival record levels in parts of the mid-Atlantic and New England," Pydynowski said.

The warmth will bring an opportunity for people to get into their spring activity routines. Less frequent storms will translate to some good travel weather as well.

Remember to apply sunscreen if you will be spending a considerable amount of times outdoors in the sunshine. The sun is as strong as it is around the start of September.

The impressive warmup forecast for the first part of next week does not mean the end of chilly outbreaks, however.

"We still expect some back-and-forth swings with chill and warmth for the Midwest and East through the end of the month," according to AccuWeather Lead Long-Range Meteorologist Paul Pastelok.

However, given the time of the year and the anticipated pattern, these temperature swings may become less dramatic moving forward through April.

With average temperatures trending upward by about 10 degrees from the start of the month to the end of the month, the frequency of days with highs in the 60s, 70s and 80s will increase.
