Week-long Major Flooding Event to Involve Joaquin
After the initial scare yesterday that Joaquin might make landfall on the East Coast as a major hurricane, today the big story is flooding, over a wide area for a long time. The devil, as usual, is in the details -- how much rain for what area? Here's what we have on the maps now; watch Bernie Rayno's video for more details.

It's not a matter of "if" but "where" the flooding footage you'll see on the news later this week will be from. The GFS model believes Virginia and North Carolina are the lollipop of 6-10 inches of rain; the European model says DelMarVa; and the NMM says Central Pennsylvania (although it doesn't go far enough out to pick up the third event).

Our story outlines three different shots of rain (meteorologically speaking -- some places could get rain almost constantly for a week!). Today, the approaching front is causing heavy rain already -- North Carolina and Virginia are experiencing flooding, after Florida and Alabama last night (see below).
