Update on Busted Lightning Video
UPDATE: Last week you may have read my diatribe about how the lightning strike supposedly captured on video last week in Texas was not truly captured. Well, yesterday morning I had an email complaint waiting in my inbox this morning from the lady who owns the house across the street on the left in the video, and says that her tree, pictured in the video, was struck by lightning that day. Based on her complaint, I have added the following text to my explanation written last week. My opinion of what's seen on this video has not changed.
The truth is, I am thrilled to have talked to an eyewitness, and I think it is plausible that the lightning strike, which you hear in the video, struck the tree on the left, but since the lightning came down from above and hit the top of the tree, it's not possible that it was captured in the video in question. A reflection of it off the lens, sure, I have no problem with that. I think it's also possible that it was a separate lightning strike. Thunderstorms have been known to put down dozens of strikes on the same city block.
