Typos: An F1 On the JuJu Scale
The Dayton tornadoes were only part of the mid-week tornado outbreak in Ohio. In a Public Information Statement, the NWS in Wilmington, Ohio reported, amidst typos:
"A TORNADO TOUCHED DOWN IN NORTHERN CLERMONT COUNTY NEAR GOSHEN THE DAMAGE
IS BEING RATED AN F1 ON THE JUJITA SCALE"
Ahh, the ever tasty JuJita Scale. Originally named for Tornado Expert Theodore Fujita, it was later purchased by Hershey, makers of JuJubes® and JuJyfruits ®.
NO, not really. Just kidding. The NWS does a great job with these storm surveys; I envy their job, investigating storm damage is fascinating. And we all make typos. Even me.
MMMMM... CANDY...
There are a couple of classic typos on AccuWeather.com that may or may not have been my fault, that made it onto AccuWeather.com.
The first was back when I Designer Carl and I used to maintain all the informational links on the front page of the site. Neither of us will fess up to who did it, but one of us said "turn the clocks back" when it should have been "forward" and half of AccuWeather.com visitors were off by an hour the next day. The other half filled in our "web feedback" form.
The next was when I was on vacation a few years ago. I had left instructions and headlines for folks to put on while I was gone. Somehow I forgot the "i" in "Bastardi" in a front page headline about Joe Bastardi and well, hilarity ensued, except with Joe, who drove down to North Carolina and pummelled me. Actually I'm not sure he ever found out, and he rarely pummels people but, as this article points out, he IS "the only licensed meteorologist with an NCAA Division 1 letter in wrestling."
