The Superstorm of 2006?
From what I'm reading this morning from our meteorologists, I think this storm may actually be underhyped. I know, what a surprise from us, huh? Maybe it's just our meteorologists getting excited about the first big winter storm of the year, but I don't think so. This storm is starting to look like a really scary severe / winter hybrid and people are quoting the "Blizzard of 1993" now [WeatherMatrix | WikiPedia] (which was famous for its thunderstorms AND snow amounts). I will say this, after last night's shenanigans, anything's possible. DISCLAIMER: I have not looked at the models myself this morning, and these blogs quotes are from last night. To get hourly updates on the storm, consult our Weather Headlines (PREMIUM | PRO) and our on-site videos (PREMIUM | PRO).
AccuWeather.com Professional's Joe Bastardi (PRO) said in his blog last night:
Then Henryan (PREMIUM | PRO) said:
Talking further with Henry this morning, what he is trying to say is that the storm will have far-reaching effects over many states and major metropolitan areas, like the 1993 Superstorm.
And Henry also warns of a second storm which could impact the East Coast:
Right now our official map shows the storm only affecting the New England coast north of Hartford, but you can bet that with half of Long Island covered, all eyes are going to be on this map through the weekend.
