Snow for the Carolinas?
UPDATE: As of Thursday 8 a.m. Eastern, the GFS continues to show a similar solution with some significant snow mixing in with the rain. The preferred short-term models (ETA & WRF) continue to not support that solution, keeping all of the precipitation as rain near or off the coast.
We've got a graphic up today showing a chance of snow for the eastern Carolinas and Virginia on Friday.
The GFS model is responsible for the forecast; this solution is not favored by the ETA and the WRF model has not yet forecast far enough out to tell.
I have shown some animations (from our Pro site) below. The first animation below is the GFS forecast from last night; the second is from this morning. Notice that this morning's forecast shows less moderate snow, so even the GFS may be giving up the ghost.
