RE: Hardiness Maps and Extremes
Blog reader Michael says about the Hardiness Maps that I posted yesterday:
"I was under the impression the word Hardiness meant the extreme HIGH AND LOW a plant could survive. Many sites in PA,WV,OH & NY set some all time record low temps in Jan.1994. This period falls in the 16 yr window and would seem to clash with the charts' changes."
Michael, you may be right. I'm not sure how "hardiness" is defined, but what you say make sense. If that is the case, then this could support Global Warming believer's claims that the weather is becoming more "volatile" with a larger range of temperatures -- or it could just be a statistical anomaly because of the 1994 cold wave.
