Possible Tornado Near Williamsport, PA
UPDATE: Here is an article where the tornado is described by local residents and the NWS estimates that it touched down for "only about 10 to 15 seconds."
UPDATE: The NWS has a new web page up on the storm that says "One long-track, right turning, supercell formed over central Clinton Co, north of Lock Haven, in the early evening hours. It moved to the south and east, through Williamsport, and into Milton. This storm produced at least one tornado - crossing I-80 near Milton where it was witnessed by a State Trooper." They have also released a PNS storm survey rating it an EF-0 (75 mph winds) that tracked for one mile.
I did end up pulling a few lightning pics from my video here in State College yesterday:
ORIGINAL POST: The highlight of yesterday's severe weather in Pennsylvania was a possible tornado near Williamsport. There isn't much news about it, but the NWS shows two tornado reports and two warnings in the area:
I presume the NWS will do a storm survey today. Here's a radar from the time when the first warning was in effect:
In other local news, Local storm chaser Ron "R-Factor" Shawley took these pics at his normal chase spot Chickoree Mountain, PA, and I went chasing here in State College, Pennsylvania, home of AccuWeather HQ [Google Map] when I saw this storm approaching (I'm at the "X"!):
Unfortunately due to high dew points, the haze was extreme and I didn't get any good pictures, probably not any video either though I'll post here if I do. There was a *lot* of lightning here in Centre County, whether you were looking at AccuWeather.com MapSpace™ or AccuWeather.com LightningPlus...
Over 3 inches of rain fell with some of the storms in the Eastern part of the state:
