Photos, Video: When the Levee Breaks...
"When the levee breaks I'll have no place to stay.
Mean old levee taught me to weep and moan."
--Led Zeppelin
Ironically, I was just listening to the newly-discovered XM LED (Led Zeppelin) channel on XM Radio this morning on the way to work, and they played "When the Levee Breaks." So, in honor of that, I'll present some video below of the levee break in Arizona over the weekend. It starts out with a complete report from Brian Rooney at ABCNewsOne,* then shows raw footage of helicopter rescues and aerial footage. The pics below that are from the Associated Press.*

I think my favorite part of that video is the cars frozen in place after the water froze overnight. Crazy stuff, to see flooding in winter.
Reno rescue team members search a neighborhood in Fernley, Nev., on Saturday, Jan. 5, 2008, after a canal levee ruptured from heavy rainfall, pouring more than 3 feet of near-freezing water into hundreds of homes and stranding some 3,500 people across a square mile in their desert agricultural town about 33 miles east of Reno. Streets near homes in Fernley, Nev., are covered in mud after flood waters receded on Sunday, Jan. 6, 2008, as residents return to their homes after evacuating Saturday. As many as 400 homes were damaged when a canal's bank gave way following heavy rain produced by the West Coast storm system that had piled snow as much as 11 feet deep in the Sierra Nevada.
