O.T.: When Pigs Can Fly
I think we bought a house today. The last week has been a blur of home tours, paperwork, sleepless nights and frantic days.
This is the first time my family has attempted home ownership, but we are very pleased with this outcome. Closing is on April 15th, so there's still a slight chance something could go horribly wrong between now and then, but it appears that we now own a home. It's not huge, but it's all ours:
For those of you who are familiar with State College, the house is located at Independence Place, a happy little subdivision behind Wal-Mart near the Nittany Mall. We considered bigger, more expensive homes, but this one is bigger than where we live now, under our budget, and almost brand-new. I'm thrilled.
We have rented an older house since I've lived here in Pennsylvania and being inside a recently-built home (with central air for my allergies!) is a dizzying high.
Now the bad news - I have to disassemble and pack dozens of computers, monitors, webcams, weather stations and other various electronics, saying nothing of nearly 10 years of accumulated miscellaneous junk. Please forgive me if my blog seems less frequent during the next two months as we prepare for the move. Maybe I'll take this as a chance to simplify my worldly goods. It'll be the yard sale of the century.
P.S.: Minutes after I got the good news, Carl showed me an amusing pop-up paper ad he received in the mail. I set it on top of my computer and ironically it showed up on the J-CAM. It said:
WHEN PIGS CAN FLY
I thought it was appropriate since a week ago I would have said that was when I was going to own a house.
