NHC Director: Tropacalypse is Coming
NHC's Director Max Mayfield said some unusual things on his way out of the position today. Normally mild-mannered, Mayfield warned of a coming tropical apocalypse, where a major storm would kill more than 10,000 and leave millions homeless.
His solution, which sounds more reasonable than recent cries to have people move away from the coast, is that politicians enforce hurricane-resistant building codes as are enforced in Hong Kong and Japan. He also wants the Hurricane Safety Board, like the National Transportation Safety Board:
"If the NTSB finds some structural problem is the cause of an air crash, you would never see that plane continue to be built with the same problems," he said.
Good point. Personally I think these are great ideas and kudos to Mayfield for giving it that good ol' exit-interview dose of honesty.
