New Anemometer on Grandfather?
I found this Associated Press photo today. Apparently there is some controversy over how to best measure the incredible winds that the tourist location endures, without cluttering up the landscape.
In this photo made available by Grandfather Mountain, a new anemometer tower to measure winds atop the mountain is temporarily hoisted in to place on Linville Peak Thursday, June 15, 2006, in Linville, N.C. The possibility of a permanent structure in this location has been ruled out due to concerns that the tower would be an eyesore. After consultation with representatives of the National Weather Service, officials at Grandfather Mountain, N.C., are currently evaluating other possible sites for the new tower.
