Long Island Sound-Effect Snow In Progress
The NWS hasn't said it, but it sure looks like from radar that Long Island Sound-Effect snow occurred overnight, and is still occurring, over Suffolk county on Long Island. In their SPS they called it "A PERSISTENT BAND OF LIGHT SNOW" and in their AFD they labeled it "FLURRY ACTIVITY IN RESPONSE TO MID-LEVEL TROUGHING AND WEAKENING 850 HPA DEFORMATION AXIS".
Reports were not immediately available on how much had fallen there. The NWS added that the band "HAS ALLOWED FOR A COATING TO 1/2 INCH OF SNOW TO ACCUMULATE ACROSS PARTS OF THE AREA. THIS BAND WILL CONTINUE TO DIMINISH EARLY THIS MORNING...WITH ONLY A DUSTING OF ADDITIONAL SNOW ACCUMULATION EXPECTED. MOTORISTS ARE ADVISED TO USE CAUTION"
