Lake Effect 10 In. and Building
The lake-effect machine will be in full effect this week, dropping two feet of snow in some of the favored lake-effect areas.
Our forecast shows that the heaviest amounts will fall on the eastern shores of Lake Erie and the southeast shore of Lake Ontario between Wednesday and Friday. The HPC tags Thursday to Friday morning as being the most likely time to get heavy snow, with the SE shores of Lake Erie and Lake Michigan having a 70% chance of 4-8 inches of snow in 24 hours.
As of noon Tuesday, Watertown, New York had already received 9.5" of snow from a persistent lake-effect band off of Lake Ontario. Below is a storm-total Doppler-estimated liquid precipitation map, showing over 0.8" of liquid equivalent, so I'm not surprised to see this report today (liquid to snow ratios vary but are close to 10:1 at 32 degrees).
