Ken Reeves, 1961-2012
I just keep shaking my head. It doesn't make sense. It can't be true. It's a somber day at AccuWeather HQ today, as we have lost one of our own weathermen -- Expert Senior Meteorologist, Vice President and General Manager of AccuWeather, Inc. Television Network, Ken Reeves passed away yesterday afternoon. Although I worked with Ken for nearly 15 years, many meteorologists here had known him twice as long (and some, like Henry Margusity, grew up with him).
The descriptions that I keep hearing about Ken today from inside and outside the walls are: Professional, courteous, an ambassador. These are all very true. He had no enemies. My coworker Alex Sosnowski has written an excellent eulogy that expresses our feelings quite well.
Of all the things that I'll remember Ken for most, probably tops is the Penn State Weather Camp. Each year, he would coordinate with Penn State to help a couple dozen future meteorologists take a look at their own futures at AccuWeather HQ. You can read my past blogs from the WeatherCamp in 2006, 2009, and 2010 or check out our Behind-The-Scenes Facebook photos for more.
Ironically, on the same day that I was blogging about the unusually warm East Coast water temperatures, Ken and Bernie were talking about the unusually warm water temperatures at the beach during Ken's last "Point Counterpoint" video last Wednesday.
As a final closing for Ken, the way I would like to remember him is the way that he was on this AccuWeather.com Blooper Reel on YouTube (link goes to the part where his blooper starts).
