Kansas Flooding, Impressive River Graphs
UPDATE: Here is a map showing rainfall since March 17th. According to AccuWeather.com Meteorologist Mike Smith (who works in Wichita), some of these amounts represent two-thirds of annual rainfall!

One of the stories not being talked about much in the media is the flooding from yesterday's severe storms in the Plains. AccuWeather.com Meteorologist Mike Smith, who uploaded a number of storm chase videos yesterday, recorded over 6 inches of rain at his house, and areas nearby got over 9 inches! Here's a map of the rainfall:

Some of the rivers in the area are near record stage - the Whitewater River at Towanda (see below) surged from a gauge height of about 2 to nearly 30 feet, seeing major flooding and approaching its record stage set in 1998. The flow of water past this gauge increased from around 200 to over 30,000 cfs (cubic feet per second) in about 18 hours.
