HYPE: GFS Blizzard Vs. Lake-Effect
The GFS has had a number of blizzard ideas for the eastern half of the United States since winter officially took over the long-range pattern a couple of weeks ago. Last night the 00Z run showed an East Coast blizzard around the middle of the month, but the model backed down from that on the next run, and even more on this morning's run, giving only Eastern Virginia and Boston a shot at heavy snow, though light snow is depicted down into the Hazzard Area [JessePedia] and coastal North Carolina:
It also has a bit of a blizzard for the northern Appalachians on Tuesday:
Meteo Madness Man (PREMIUM | PRO) says "the GFS blizzard shown is incorrect and will not happen," but a sure thing is lake-effect snow next week, which "due to the warmth of the lakes, some places [could] pick up a foot or more of snow." Here's the GFS depiction of the lake-effect Wednesday night:
