Hurricane Wilma's Probabilities
Below are the historical paths of storms passing through Hurricane Wilma's current location. We've talked before about how useful these maps really are, but it's still interesting to note what this one shows. There are basically three "prongs" of most likely directions for Wilma -- West, Northwest, or North. Our official forecast currently has her heading north, then turning to the northeast.

Also, if you look at the government's Tropical Cyclone Heat Potential map today, which look for warm temperatures deep in the ocean, you can see that Wilma has a good chance for strengthening until she gets past the Yucatan, then there is less of a chance. There will also be some friction which will come into play as she tries to squeeze through the Yucatan Channel (map).

October/November landfalls are not unusual... Joe Bastardi mentioned just now on Fox News that there were 23 landfalls in those months between 1900-1964, but there have been only 3 Cat-3 landfalls since 1964.
