GOM Earthquake Trips Tsunami Sensor
There was a major earthquake in the central Gulf of Mexico today, which was felt as far away as the Carolinas. Nearly 5,000 people reported shaking of the earth to the USGS (archived map as of this morning). To get a feel for how large this earthquake was compared to others in the last week, click here for an archived U.S. map.
No tsunami warnings occurred, but one of the of the government's new Tsunami buoys recorded a small "event" where the height of the sea rose by 1/10th of a meter (archived graphs here). You can read more about it on CNN, or Weather Headlines (PREMIUM | PRO) and Breaking Weather News Page.
