Four Tropical Cyclones in Atlantic At Same Time?
This morning we have Hanna, Ike and Josephine behind Gustav (see the AccuWeather.com Hurricane Center (PREMUM | PRO).
RED CROSS HAS OVER 3,000 WORKERS DEALING WITH GUSTAV AFTERMATH. READ THEIR BLOG.
Gustav had his last statement issued and Josephine was declared at the same time - 5 AM. So one could argue that, in theory there were 4 tropical cyclones at the same time in the Atlantic basin (certainly NHC's current map indicates that we were). If we're looking to beat records, there were 4 hurricanes at the same time in 1998, and 5 total cyclones in 1971 (Hurricane FAQ).
