Extremely Low Humidity in the East
Humidity levels were extremely low in Virginia and North Carolina yesterday afternoon. Many stations reported humidity readings under 10%, which is unusual in the East. The map below (from our Pro site) shows readings at 4 PM EST on Thursday.
Many Red Flag Warnings (fire advisories) were up for the East Coast yesterday, and still are, as shown by the map below, which shows Red Flag Warnings as of 6 PM Friday in the peach color. One brush fire in New Jersey even got some news coverage.
Humidity readings on weather stations are notoriously inaccurate and some stations fell too low to register a reading. The station at Ahoskie, North Carolina appeared to be functioning normally and claimed humidity readings that fell as low as 2 percent Thursday afternoon.
