Everything Is Bigger in Texas: Monster Cloud, Gravity Waves
Several weather stories of note today -- first and foremost, there is a significant chance of severe weather tomorrow in my backyard, Central Pennsylvania, but I'm not blogging about that until tomorrow morning. I have shown some model maps on the Pennsylvania Storm Chasers 2011 Group on Facebook). Next, a really cool satellite image. Check out how sweet this monster thunderstorm on the west side of Dallas, Texas, looked yesterday on the high-res NASA MODIS satellite (as viewed by Google Earth):
The storms knocked out power in Mansfield, Texas, and were responsible for a handful of hail reports. Next, let's talk Gravity Waves. They caused thunderstorms off the Northeast coast on Tuesday, and you could see both the waves and the storms on satellite (HT: Brad Panovich):
Then yesterday, I saw a picture from the Texas Storm Chasers on Facebook of gravity clouds down there:
