Details on 2006 Killer Tornadoes
Below is a map of all killer tornadoes so far this year. It has been a very deadly year, with Missouri and Tennessee taking the brunt of the fatalities. A complete list is available here, courtesy NOAA's Storm Prediction Center.
Of the 48 people killed so far, 3 were in vehicles, 7 in mobile homes, and 31 in houses. Not surprisingly, the strongest six of the fifteen tornadoes were F3 tornadoes, responsible for 38 of the fatalities. (F3 denotes the Fujita Scale rating).
As you can see from the chart below, we are way ahead of previous years in regards to total tornadoes.
