Big Mammajamma Correction
In the entry about Tuesday's storms, I quoted "the big mammajamma" severe outbreak from last year as being March 13, 2006. This was incorrect -- I forgot about April 2, 2006 AND April 7, 2006, both of which had a number of severe weather reports that could only be described as "ginormous." I have corrected that blog entry. Here's a summary of recent major outbreaks, and links to my blog entries about them:
April 2, 2006: 872 reports (368 hail, 418 wind, 86 tornado)
April 7, 2006: 871 reports (565 hail, 215 wind, 91 tornado)
March 13, 2006: 669 reports (402 hail, 127 wind, 140 tornado)
April 3, 2007: 586 reports (403 hail, 174 wind, 9 tornado)
May 25, 2006: 571 reports (309 hail, 254 wind, 8 tornado)
If I've missed any other major ones (over 500 reports) from the last year, please let me know. The truth is, I usually research these things better, but yesterday I just scanned through my old blog entries. I typically have statistics for this sort of thing on hand and it's a gaping hole in my data. I'll attempt to run some stats this weekend so we can see if I missed any more, and get an update for just how common a 500-report outbreak is.
