Barry Wrap-Up: Boring Winds, Exciting Rain
UPDATE 6/4/07: The list of rainfalls below has been updated for NC, VA, NJ, CT, MA, RI, NH, and ME. Atlantic City, NJ and Tannersville, NY were removed because their amounts were exceeded by other stations.
ORIGINAL POST:
Here's a look at Tropical Storm Barry's remnants this morning from ADCRP (you're looking at pressure, winds, radar and satellite).
I didn't even post any archived Buoy images today, as what's left of Barry has been a snore this morning. I couldn't even find any buoys or coastal stations gusting out of the 30's (knots). As far as I can tell, the highest wind gust from Tropical Storm Barry was 47 knots (54 mph), which I already reported yesterday, from both SKMG1 and TYBG1. Even Nantucket has only made it up to 37 mph so far this morning.
The rain is a bigger story, especially since many of the areas affected by the storm were in a severe drought. Here's yesterday morning's 24-hour precip chart from the NWS -- 6 to 8 inches of rain in Central Georgia:
This morning's 24-hour map was much less impressive, with only 3-4 inches in limited locations.
Reports from NOAA's HPC indicate the following top amounts, by state (amounts over 2 inches shown, will be updated throughout day, last update 12 PM):
Mount Vernon, GA: 8.00"
West Palm Beach, FL: 6.99"
Near Hardeeville, SC: 6.12"
Absecon, NJ: 4.50"
New York City, NY: 3.91"
Pennington Gap, VA: 3.75"
Taunton, MA: 3.19"
Burrillville, RI: 3.10"
Berlin, CT: 2.90"
Newmarket, NH: 2.75"
Saco, ME: 2.64"
New Bern, NC: 2.47"
The NWS also reported that Fort Gaines, Georgia received 20.03" (but I believe that to be a typo). Here's a map that we created last night before all the reports were in:
