A White Christmas Message In Song From JB
AccuWeather.com Chief Long-Range Forecaster Joe Bastardi has a special Christmas message for you, in song. The following is reprinted from his AccuWeather.com Professional blog:
WEDNESDAY: WILL SING FOR SNOW.
Two storms in the run up before Christmas, including one around Christmas Day. The idea of the nation's most widespread white Christmas in many a year (2002 had an actual storm on Christmas Day, and we should have that too, a second one that may leave snow in the west on the 22nd, move into the Plains the 23rd, Midwest to Tennessee Valley the 24th and then the East Coast on Christmas Day) is on the table. Don't let this make you think I am trashing the front runner for the second one. Nonsense! The modeling (GFS) is pulling its trending west and is still having its feedback problems. At the least, a lot of 1- to 3-inch amounts are likely from Missouri to the mid-Atlantic states with number one with heavier snow in the interior Carolinas to the Delmarva, but what is more likely is that this spread amounts of 3-6 inches or more on the weekend all the way back to the big cities from DC to NYC and BOS with heavier amounts southeast of that. Look for the trend to continue on the GFS.
All this has inspired me to take liberties with music. The first for your (dis)pleasure is done to the tune: "Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"
You better watch out/ is my weather cry/ no reason to pout/ I'm telling you why/ Winter storms are coming to town
Even if one runs amiss/ you have a chance twice/ two storms on the map, with snow and ice/ Winter storms are coming to town
This summer I wasn't sleeping/ Winter's setup kept me awake / I think we had an idea that was good/ It's a dream pattern for snow geese' sakes! (A dream pattern for snow geese sakes)/
O! You better watch out / is my weather cry/ no reason to pout/ I'm telling you why/ Winter storms are coming to town/ Winter storms are coming to town
Or if you prefer (done to "Double Shot of My Baby's Love"... sending this out to Dr. Joe Sobel.)
Double Shot of Winter's Love
Woke up this morning, more happy than sad/ The pattern was looking more good than bad/ Two storms for snow geese by Christmas are now in sight/ Things are turning out to look all right (yeah!) (oh, oh)/ No snow for so long, has really been hard / I hate green at Christmas in my front yard (whoo!)/ So no need to whine cause of no storms from above/ We're in for a double shot of some winter love /
Chorus:
Double shot winter's love, yeah yeah, yeah / Double shot winter's love, yeah yeah, yeah / A notion that I have of snow falling from above/ Look for a double shot of winter's love /
Verse 2:
The first storm is getting closer you see (ooh!)/ A trend farther west could mean ecstasy/ Putting snow on the ground with the geese honking loud (yah-hah!)/ From Missouri to the East Coast, from the fluffy cloud/ (weak lyric, but it's early) But things around Christmas are looking rough/ A coast-to-coast storm dropping more of the white stuff [pop!]/ From the Plains to the mid- and north Atlantic, more snow from above/ Part two of the double shot of winter's love /
Thanks Joe! And finally, here's the latest GFS model prediction for snow cover on Christmas afternoon. Dare we dream?
