Governor Brown requests assistance from federal government on infrastructure upkeep

The governor talked flood control in Sacramento Friday.

Governor Jerry Brown said today wants to spend $437 Million dollars on flood control and emergency response following the record rainfall this season that led to the spillway crisis at the Oroville Dam.

Brown said he'll do that by redirecting $50 Million from the state general fund and requesting a $387 Million dollars from appropriation from the voter-approved 2014 'proposition one' water bond.

Both actions require approval by the state legislature, and brown is asking that it be done as soon as possible.

He's also asking President Trump for help.

“I'm sending a request to the president to streamline the environmental review at the Oroville Dam project,” Brown said. “I'm listing ten urgent areas that need environmental review. This is part of the 50 projects that we have asked to consider for funding.”

Brown is also seeking updates on flood inundation maps and emergency action plans as well as enhanced dam inspections.

The governor says, overall, the state has $187 Billion unmet infrastructure needs.
