Western Pacific Fairly Quiet
The western North Pacific Ocean has become fairly quiet as depicted on the satellite image below.
The only organized feature we see is a tropical disturbance that is currently bringing scattered showers and thunderstorms to the Philippines. A looping of recent satellite images does not show any organized rotation with this system. The showers and thunderstorms do not appear to be consolidated or very organized. Because of the lack of any real signs of organization and its eventual northwest movement into some drier air over the South China Sea, we do not expect this system to become a tropical depression.
East of the Philippines, a large area of dry weather prevails. Therefore, we expect no development to occur in the western North Pacific Basin through the remainder of the week and into the upcoming weekend.
