The Salt Effects
Salt and de-icer can be both our friend and enemy during the harsh winter months. Good news for the roads, but potentially bad news for vehicles and pets.
Salt is used to treat roadways because it lowers the melting temperature of water. This in tern allows roadways to be wet rather than icy, even if the mercury dips below the freezing mark. However, salt is also highly corrosive. While it's doing wonders on the roadways it can away at your paint and rust away the undercarriage of your vehicle.
While it is nearly impossible to avoid getting salt on your car in snow prone areas, there are a few things you can do to minimize the effects.
When it comes to the pets, consider using nontoxic de-icer brands such as Safepaws or Morton Safe-T-Pet. These products to not contain salt or chloride, dangerous for pets to ingest.
