Snow to spread across northeastern US into this weekend
Only a few days after a major storm brought snow and blizzard conditions, the northeastern United States is set to receive another bout of wintry weather this weekend.
“As the Upper Midwest and Northeast continue to dig out from the recent snowstorm, a new storm will take aim at the Midwest late this week and the Northeast spanning Friday night into Sunday morning,” according to AccuWeather Meteorologist Max Vido.

A storm will dive southeastward from Canada and tap into some moisture from the Gulf of Mexico and later the Atlantic Ocean. However, little moisture will be available to the storm initially.
The ice and snow will tend to be very spotty and more of a nuisance over the Upper Midwest as the storm slowly organizes through through Friday.
A small amount of freezing rain can glaze roads and sidewalks as the storm traverses the North Central states. Snow will fall near the border of Canada.
Through Friday, an arm of steady snow and ice will extend southward to the lower Great Lakes region, part of the Ohio Valley and the central Appalachians.
"A wintry mix can coat surfaces from Chicago to Detroit, Cleveland and Pittsburgh," according to AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Alex Sosnowski.
As strengthening occurs, more substantial precipitation is expected as the storm progresses to the Atlantic coast this weekend.
"Up to a few inches of snow is possible over parts of central and northern Michigan on Friday to parts of Pennsylvania and New York state during Friday night," Sosnowski said.
With the exception of snow or a wintry mix in parts of the West Virginia mountains, rain will fall from West Virginia to Virginia and Tennessee.
The storm will run into a thick dome of cold air in the Northeast. While the storm can begin as rain in some areas, most of the precipitation will fall in the form of snow in New England and the upper part of the mid-Atlantic coast.

“Wintry weather will impact many of the same places that received over a foot of snow Tuesday,” said Vido.
Mostly rain is likely around Baltimore and Washington, D.C. However, there could be a brief period of ice or a wintry mix, especially north and west of these cities.
Even though the storm may start as rain from New York City to Philadelphia, a change to snow is possible.
"The storm will attempt to strengthen along the New England coast this weekend," Sosnowski said.
"Prior to the storm moving out to sea this weekend, a period of moderate to heavy snow is likely in southern New England and Long Island, with a few inches possible in Boston, Providence, Rhode Island, and Hartford, Connecticut," Sosnowski said.
Moderate snow could wrap into New York City and parts of New Jersey and eastern Pennsylvania for a time Saturday, Sosnowski added.
The air coming in behind the storm will not be as cold as that of this past week. However, another blast of cold air may follow during the middle of next week.
With more storms on the horizon soon after the storm leaves this weekend, there will be little relief from winter next week, especially around the upper Great Lakes to New England.
