Show off your weather prediction skills with the Forecaster Challenge game

AccuWeather now offers Forecaster Challenge -- a unique game where anyone can test their ability to predict the weather.

Forecaster Challenge is an educational game that allows users to demonstrate their ability in weather forecasting differently than just looking at what is going on in their own neighborhood.

Upon signing up, participants will receive 25,000 AccuDollars, which have no intrinsic value and are only used to measure success within the game.

Players earn more AccuDollars for making correct predictions, but lose the AccuDollars they spend if predictions are incorrect. Users are also rewarded with 3,000 AccuDollars just by logging in every six hours, which may make players feel more confident making larger predictions.

Users can play as a "guest" but will need to register in order to see and keep track of current or past predictions.

The game currently focuses on rainfall, snowfall and hurricane landfall, but will soon allow users to make predictions based on other types of weather, including high and low temperatures.

For example, if rain is expected across New England, users in Forecaster Challenge can predict whether Boston will get at least 0.5 of an inch of rain that day. If a user "spent" 500 AccuDollars on making that prediction, they might be able to receive 1,200 AccuDollars if correct. The more unlikely the prediction, the greater the potential payout is if the outcome matches the prediction.

Rainfall and snowfall predictions can be made for any of the over 80 pre-determined cities, while hurricane landfall predictions can be made for any location near the coast of the contiguous United States.

All current predictions can be viewed on the My Predictions tab at the top of the Forecaster Challenge page. This will also show past predictions and how many AccuDollars were received from the predictions.
