Series of storms to unleash wind, rain across the UK into this weekend
A stormy weather pattern is set to grip the United Kingdom into this weekend and may include a named windstorm.
Rain and gusty winds descended on the U.K. Wednesday as the first in a series of storms reached the region.
Rain will continue to fall through the day on Thursday from Southwest England into Wales and northwestern England.

Total rainfall from into Thursday will be 25-50 mm (1-2 inches), resulting in an elevated risk for flooding and travel disruptions.
A powerful storm system will then approach the U.K. on Friday, bringing the risk for damaging winds and further flooding problems. This system could potentially become a named windstorm.
“Peak wind gusts of 50-75 mph (80-120 km/h) are likely throughout southern and western parts of the U.K., especially in exposed coastal and higher-terrain locations,” said AccuWeather Meteorologist Tyler Roys.
Elsewhere, wind gusts of 40-50 mph (65-80 km/h) are expected. This includes London and Edinburgh.
“Tree damage, power cuts and coastal flooding are other concerns on Friday,” added Roys.
The combination of strong winds and wet conditions will make it feel cold and raw, with AccuWeather RealFeel® Temperatures under 5 C (41 F) during the afternoon hours.

Dry spells along with occasional blustery showers will occur throughout the U.K. on Saturday as chilly conditions continue.
The most frequent showers will be across Southwest England, Wales and western Scotland.
The chilly, unsettled weather will persist on Sunday. High temperatures will range from 9-13 C (48-56 F) and gusty winds will make it feel even colder.
In fact, the showers will be wintry across the highest terrain of Wales, Northern England and Scotland on Sunday.
Additional bouts of rain and wind are expected across the U.K. next week.
