Germany: Recent warm-up to last into midweek despite wet Wednesday

By Eric Leister, AccuWeather senior meteorologist

A slow-moving storm will spin from the British Isles to Scandinavia through midweek ushering the warmest air of the year so far to much of continental Europe, including Germany.

This warmer air spread across Germany on Tuesday, and the unseasonable warmth will continue into Wednesday.

Germany 4/3

Tuesday's warm up was most noticeable across eastern Germany following a chilly Easter Sunday, which featured snowflakes around Berlin.

Tuesday's high in Berlin reached 18 C (64 F), making it the warmest day of the year so far and well above the seasonal average of 11 C (52 F).

Temperatures will climb even higher on Wednesday as the mercury reaches 20 C (68 F) in Berlin. Temperatures in a few locations in southern Germany could reach 21 C (70 F).

Detailed Berlin weather forecast

An approaching cold front will bring the risk for showers and thunderstorms to much of the country on Wednesday as mild air remains place for one more day.

The best chance for thunderstorms will be in central and eastern parts of the country during the afternoon and evening hours.

The cold front will cross the country Wednesday night into Thursday bring some additional rainfall and also cause temperatures to drop back to more seasonable levels.

Averages temperatures across Germany in early April range from 10-12 C (50-53 F).

The cooler air will not last long as another surge of warmth is expected across the country from late in the week through the weekend with highs near 21 C (70 F) in many locations by Sunday.
