Germany: Conditions to improve for Oktoberfest following cool, damp start
Cool and, at times, damp weather has dominated the start of the 207th annual Oktoberfest in Munich; however, a significant improvement in the weather is expected to begin on Thursday.
High temperatures have ranged from 12-16 C (54-60 F) throughout the festival thus far with rain falling on Saturday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

High pressure over Scandinavia will build southward into northern Germany on Thursday, shielding the region from any rainfall.
This surge of drier air will also bring more sunshine following several days of mostly cloudy conditions.
A partly sunny sky is expected from Thursday through Saturday in Munich and surrounding areas.
The combination of dry and sunnier weather will also yield higher temperatures. While temperatures will still be 1-2 C (2-4 F) below normal, it will feel noticeably milder.
High temperatures will range from 17-19 C (62-66 F) from Thursday through this weekend.

“The chance for a shower or two may return Sunday, but overall it will still be a good day with plenty of dry time, mild temperatures and some sunshine,” said AccuWeather Meteorologist Jake Sojda.
There will continue to be a threat for some wet weather early next week.
“No significant warmup is expected through the remainder of the festival, but temperatures will remain close to seasonable levels next week,” added Sojda.
While the first Oktoberfest was held entirely in October, the start of the festival was eventually moved into September in an attempt to take advantage of the nicer weather. Oktoberfest will run through 3 October this year.
